Many Irish Travellers are Roman Catholic – and most are very religious. So, as at any event, a Travellers’ Church is also present at Appleby Horse Fair, which takes place once a year in Cumbria. A priest from the area will hold mass for the Travellers. But the Travellers’ Church faces strong competition from Jehovah’s Whitnesses, the local church and independent missionaries.
